As an owner of a construction business for nearly a decade, concrete was no stranger to Kevin. Tiles, hardwood and carpet were placed on top to create a beautiful, finished look.
However, in 2005, Kevin saw concrete in a whole new way. The medium that once was hidden, he now wanted exposed. After purchasing a ‘How-To’ book, he created a concrete coffee table for his home. This one-of-a-kind piece of art became a conversation piece to those who came to visit.
In 2010, he tackled the project of making a concrete countertop for his newly remodeled kitchen. He realized that because he was making ‘something out of nothing’, he could incorporate elements in the concrete that no other stone product could duplicate. In the upside-down reverse mold, he included a drain board with an integrated cutting board, a trivet, an herb garden and a metal decal of his last name that his father, an owner of a car business, used to put on the back of the cars.
It was at the successful completion of that countertop, Kevin desired to ‘play in the mud’ for a living. His creativity, enthusiasm and craftsmanship have launched Solid Rock Concrete Design.
Kevin received a certificate-of-completion from Fu-Tung Cheng’s Advanced Training in Concrete Countertop Design.
